I miss that freedom and i am thinking about buying a dumb phone to use during my daily routine, and maybe checking smartphone quickly in the evening just to read personal emails, bank notifications... Just to try and see how it goes . But I have a baby and I am concerned about emergencies... Maybe I would need to check something on the web... Uhm...

I think most of all the thing about switching to a dumb phone especially for Millenials or Gen Z is the insecurities about social acceptance! I think its especially hard on Gen Z. Millenials did live most of their lives with out smart phones. It was something that appeared in their 20's. Now most are in their 30's and not only do they remember what it was like to live! And enjoy the present but also in your 30's you have learn to stand up for what you believe in and just accept it publically not carring what others think just knowing it works for you. Now Gen Z... Had this sticky technology really early on.. And most dont recall moments when they were free and enjoying the present and the moment and being bored and getting creative and not being anxious all the time and in the virtual world full of so much expectancies! So its hars for them to go to a place where they have never been! Plus many are too young to stand for what they believe! And swim against the current. And be ok with not fitting in and chosing a different life style. One that allows them to be happy and free. Now Millenials its not that hard to return to living free. Now Gen Z's need to perhaps learned from these Millenials and also be honest with sorrounding friends and family members and create a safe place or support system in a group of people who feel the same about smart phones and so be able to not feel alone in this switch from Smart phone to Dumb phone or Simple phone. So find out which friends feel the same and decide to make the change and stand by that choice no matter what others think. Know that the previous generation (Millenials) not too long ago did everything in their youth without a Smart phone! And were happier than Gen Z is now with all this addictive technology and social media! Dumb phone and laptop or desk top is enough! The peace and freedom is worth it. Yet 8t can be a bit raw at first to realize what a fasad it was to spend so much time with people online! To wake up to the real world where what you see at hand is what you really have. Those people who you see and talk aften not imaginary friends online! A world that is alive waiting for you to embrace it gently little by little! No rush no needing to record it or "share it" with anyone. Finding the daily adventure of just taking life as it comes not so much controlling things and needing to know it all. Letting God take control again and living a peaceful simple happy life again or for the first time. Not having to keep a status online about your daily life. Im so glad for videos like this! Really, this runs full circle, to a time when smartphones were non-existent, Ashton: "You cannot miss what you do not possess..."& as you correctly assert, intellectual stimulus improves exponentially - the finest computer in this world resides between your ears; the alternative is laziness, because societal values (now) drive an individual's momentum unrealistically into a 'dead' space, ergo, it is unable to function effectively without technological devices. Pleased to see too, that you've reverted back to an analogue film camera. Certainly in the UK, there seems to be a movement toward anti-technological utility; I wonder how far such an ethos stretches across the United States....

Smart phones (social media) are toxic people that are addicted to them have the attention span of a goldfish.

I use a TCL Flip phone I am not on any social media (except YT) the one truth you will soon find out is who your friends really are - they are the ones that will actually phone you or take the time ( 1 minute) to send you an email.

I want to use a dumb phone but music is tge only thing id miss. Any solutions to this?

I tend to use my smartphone frequently throughout the day to google random questions I have. This is especially useful when me and a friend disagree on what is fact and what is not. I’ll just google it and end the debate right then and there, rather than have to leave the conversation unresolved. That’s probably the only thing holding me back from making the switch to a dumb phone. I love having a world of knowledge at my fingertips

Thank you for this in-depth q&A, you answered a lot of questions that I would have had, as I explore this lifestyle. I have started using my phone last s going outside more. Making my free time about healthy activities inside and outside, no screen time. And the result of this lifestyle is that I am healthier than I've been since high school, I'm actually at my high school weight where I could dunk. I have clearer skin, the dog is happier. The wife is happier. The children are happier. We've been playing frisbee outside in the evenings, reading books, reading. Praying meditating taking walks and just like you said, spending time with your own thoughts is so valuable to me. Nowadays. With the crazy world around us I want to be able to slow down and enjoy the moment because I realize so starkly they may be the last moment we ever have to enjoy. My children will grow old. I will change. My parents will die. I only have today to live. So what am I doing? Spending it on a phone? Or living.

The music situation would be a dealbreaker. I would use a basic iPhone and keep your Spotify active, id also use it for the calendar because I rely on mine for work.

I wish to contribute with some constructive criticism if that is something you would like to read: I think that perhaps the title of the video betrayed what was actually in it. I think a lot of people are looking for ideas of what the set up would look like and maybe see some examples. During this video, I personally did not get that. I heard a lot of things you might want to do but I did not see what you meant by that. Maybe next time you can have pages already filled out so the viewers can see instead of having blank pages with ideas. I also think some of the thoughts you have were a little too dragged out. Perhaps a more straightforward approach may work better. Hope you keep going honing your craft, I can tell this is something that you are interested in doing.

It's not a dumb phone! It's still an Internet device - still! the phone calls move over Voice over IP (short for *Internet* Protocol) so you were running away from the apps, but you're still dealing with smartphone with specific applications, but the quality is still garabe if you're using it for voice.

I feel like my life was and can be happier when i wasnt so plugged into being online stuff like tik tok and instagram etc are addicting so is youtube, but i miss just going to the library like when i was 16 when i had a dumb phone and using limited time online and checking out books/dvds, and i miss specifically entertainment and making memories without having to stream or having to go on instagram
